Cyclone Ditwah Brings Unprecedented Destruction Across Sri Lanka: Church of Ceylon Mobilizes Relief.
+ Click to read moreAs communities across Sri Lanka continue to face the devastating impact of recent extreme weather and flooding, the Diocese of Kurunagala, together with its Youth Movement, has launched an Urgent Relief Mission under the theme “Hope in Action.” This coordinated effort aims to bring immediate assistance to individuals and families displaced by the disaster.
The Church is calling on all faithful, partners, and well-wishers to contribute essential supplies that will directly support those affected. Every donation—small or large—helps restore dignity, safety, and stability to the lives of vulnerable families.
The relief mission is currently collecting:
Dry Rations – Rice, dhal, canned food, and other non-perishable essentials
Clothing – Clean and usable garments for men, women, and children
Bottled Water – Safe drinking water for families in temporary shelters
Hygiene Kits – Soap, sanitary items, toothpaste, and first-aid essentials
These items will be distributed through parish networks and youth volunteers working on the ground.
Donations can be handed over at the following Anglican churches:
Cathedral Church of Christ the King – Kurunegala
St. Paul’s Church – Kandy
These churches serve as central collection hubs where items will be sorted, packed, and dispatched to affected areas.
For further support or to coordinate group contributions, please reach out to the Youth Movement team:

The Diocese encourages everyone—church members, community groups, and partner organisations—to join this mission of love and service. At a time when many have lost homes, livelihoods, and a sense of security, your contribution becomes a beacon of hope.
By participating in this relief mission, you help the Church live out its calling to serve the suffering, uplift the vulnerable, and embody Christ’s compassion in tangible ways.
