The Installation of Ven. Sanath Kumara Medagamgoda as the 11th Archdeacon

On Thursday, the 2nd of January 2025, the Cathedral Church of Christ the King in Kurunegala witnessed a significant milestone in its history—the collation and installation of the Ven. Sanath Kumara Medagamgoda as the 11th Archdeacon of the Diocese of Kurunagala. This solemn and joyous occasion was presided over by the Bishop of Kurunagala, Rt. Rev. Nishantha Fernando.

Ven. Sanath Medagamgoda succeeds Ven. Anton Williams, who served the diocese with distinction. The event was graced by the presence of respected priests, diocesan office bearers, and members of the diocesan community, reflecting the unity and fellowship of the church.

Ordained in 2009, Ven. Sanath Kumara Medagamgoda has served in various capacities within the Anglican Church. He has been the Priest-in-Charge of St. Paul’s Church, Kandy, and St. Andrew’s Church, Gampola, among others, ministering faithfully across the region. He also holds the position of Chaplain at Hillwood College, Kandy, a prominent Anglican girls' school in Sri Lanka, and serves as the Coordinator of the Board of Social Responsibility for the Diocese of Kurunagala, demonstrating his commitment to both education and social welfare.

The Diocese expressed its heartfelt gratitude to Ven. Anton Williams for his dedicated service and leadership. As Ven. Sanath Medagamgoda begins his tenure, and the community offers prayers and support, wishing him success in his new role as Archdeacon.

May this new chapter in the Diocese of Kurunagala bring continued growth, service, and blessings under the guidance of the new Archdeacon.
