New Members Appointed to Christian Religious Advisory Board of the Education Ministry

Appointment letters were officially handed over to the newly selected members of the Christian Religious Advisory Board of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Training for the term 2025–2028.

The letters were presented by Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Hon. Harini Amarasuriya, at a formal event held at the Ministry premises. A total of 15 new members were appointed to the board, which plays a key role in advising on Christian religious education and related matters within the school and higher education systems of Sri Lanka.

During the event, the board engaged in a productive discussion with the Prime Minister, addressing various challenges faced by Christian education in both school curricula and tertiary institutions.

Among the distinguished attendees were:

  • Sujitha Sivanayagam, General Secretary of the National Christian Council of the Methodist Church

  • Bishop Nishantha Fernando, Diocese of Kurunegala, Church of Ceylon

  • Pastor Lakmal Wijeratne, President of the Reparamadu Sabha

  • Mr. Nalakka Naluwewa, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Training

  • Mrs. Subhashini Dematgoda, Commissioner General of Educational Publications, Jaffna

  • Mrs. P. D. Iroshini K. Paranagama, Chief Commissioner of Colleges of Education and Teacher Education Administration

Several senior officials from the Ministry of Education were also present at the event. The appointments mark a renewed commitment to supporting and strengthening Christian education across the nation’s academic institutions.
