The Diocese of Kurunegala witnessed two meaningful events during October that celebrated the life and ministry of two visionary Bishops whose work continues to inspire generations within the Church of Ceylon.
On 4th October 2025, the Bishop Lakdasa Cultural Foundation organised a workshop on “Communication & Presenting Skills” at St. John’s Church, Gatambe. The programme aimed to empower participants—particularly youth and church leaders—with practical skills to communicate effectively in ministry and community life. The event reflected the late Bishop Lakdasa De Mel’s enduring commitment to education, cultural engagement, and leadership formation within the Church and society.
Later in the month, on 18th October 2025, the Bishop Lakshman Wickramasinghe Memorial Centre hosted the Bishop Lakshman Wickramasinghe Memorial Service and a series of social events with the community at St. Andrew’s Church, Galaboda. The gathering included a special address by Rev. S. Sathivel, who reflected on Bishop Wickramasinghe’s prophetic witness, social concern, and deep compassion for justice and reconciliation. The memorial events brought together clergy, laity, and community members in gratitude for his lasting spiritual and social impact.
Both occasions served as reminders of the continuing influence of these two remarkable Bishops—whose vision, faith, and service continue to shape the mission and outreach of the Church of Ceylon today.
