Her historic appointment marks the first time a woman has held this esteemed office in the history of the Anglican Communion.
In a statement issued by the Rt. Revd. Nishantha Fernando, Bishop of Kurunegala, the Diocese extended heartfelt congratulations to Archbishop Mullally and assured her of their prayers and unwavering support. The Bishop noted that the Diocese rejoices in this momentous occasion and warmly welcomes her also as the Metropolitan of the Church of Ceylon. “On behalf of our Diocese, we extend sincere congratulations to Archbishop Mullally and assure her of our love and prayers as she embarks on this new chapter of faithful service and leadership,” Bishop Fernando said. “May God guide her to be a compassionate shepherd of His people, a sign of unity, and a steadfast witness to the Gospel.” The statement also included a special Prayer for the Archbishop of Canterbury and Her Family, giving thanks for her appointment and seeking God’s blessings for wisdom, courage, and compassion as she leads the Church in truth and unity.
