Thalampitiya, a vibrant rural parish within the Diocese of Kurunagala, celebrated the Feast of St. Andrew's Church on the 9th of July, 2023. The presence of the Rt. Rev. Nishantha Fernando graced the occasion. The enthusiastic parishioners warmly welcomed the Rt. Rev. Nishantha Fernando, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kurunagala.
Leading the service and overseeing the proceedings were Rev. Nawin Sanjaya Gamage and Rev. Renuka Damayanthi Karunaratne, the dedicated curates of St. Andrew's Church. With their guidance, the celebrations unfolded seamlessly, ensuring a memorable day for all in attendance.
During the event, Bishop Nishantha Fernando took the time to interact with the Sunday School students and the Youth Community of the church. His engaging presence and insightful words left a lasting impression on the young minds, fostering a sense of unity and spirituality among the future generation of the parish.
Recognizing the importance of the elderly community within the parish, the Bishop held a special prayer for them, offering solace and support in their later years. This act of compassion and respect touched the hearts of the elderly parishioners, who felt honoured and valued by their new Bishop. As a token of appreciation and gratitude, the altar servers society of St. Andrew's Church presented Bishop Nishantha Fernando with a small gift.
One of the highlights of the Feast was the magnificent Pol Thorana, a traditional decoration made from coconuts arranged in the shape of a cross. This intricate creation was meticulously crafted by talented parishioners.
