Bishop's Overseas Visit Strengthens Ties with Australian Anglican Community

The Rt. Rev. Nishantha Fernando, Bishop of Kurunagala Diocese, recently embarked on a fruitful visit to Australia, fostering stronger bonds within the Anglican community across the region. His journey included several significant engagements that highlighted the ongoing collaboration and unity within the global Anglican Communion.

On 4th August 2024, Bishop Fernando participated in a Holy Communion Service at St. John's Anglican Church in Footscray, Melbourne. This service provided an opportunity for the bishop to connect with the local congregation and share in the Eucharistic celebration, reinforcing the shared faith and traditions that bind our churches together.

Continuing his visit to Melbourne, Bishop Fernando took part in another Holy Communion Service at Holy Apostles Anglican Church in Sunshine on 11th August 2024. This service was another occasion for the bishop to engage with the faithful, offering words of encouragement and hope to the gathered community.

On 18th August 2024, Bishop Fernando held a conversation at the Cathedral Church of Christ the King in Ballarat, part of the Anglican Diocese of Ballarat. This event allowed for meaningful dialogue and reflection on the shared mission and ministry of the Anglican Church in both Australia and our home diocese.

During his time in Melbourne, Bishop Fernando also met with Rt. Rev. Keerthisiri Fernando, the former 6th Bishop of the Kurunegala Diocese, who is now serving as the Vicar of St. Peter's Church in Murrumbeena, Melbourne. This meeting was a heartwarming reunion, reflecting the enduring connections and friendships within our church community. Bishop Fernando also had the opportunity to meet several friends from Kurunegala who have relocated to Australia, further demonstrating the diaspora's ongoing connection to their spiritual roots.

We are delighted to see our diocese's influence and presence extending beyond our nation's borders. These visits not only strengthen our ties with fellow Anglicans abroad but also remind us of the global nature of our mission and ministry.

May we continue to be inspired by these connections and remain united in our faith as we move forward together in the service of Christ.
