A Historic Day for the Diocese of Kurunagala

The Diocese of Kurunagala marked a momentous occasion as it celebrated its 75th anniversary with a grand thanksgiving service on February 1, 2025. The event took place at the Cathedral Church of Christ the King, Kurunegala, and was attended by nearly 2,000 guests, including clergy, religious leaders, and believers from various faiths.

The chief guests for the celebration were the Bishop of Colombo, Rt. Rev. Dushantha Rodrigo, the Bishop of Kurunegala, Rt. Rev. Nishantha Fernando, and the Anglican Bishop of West London. Religious leaders from several Christian denominations, including the Roman Catholic Church, the Salvation Army, and the Methodist Church, also participated in the service. Additionally, Muslim and Buddhist religious leaders from the region, along with representatives from the worldwide Anglican Communion, graced the occasion, reflecting the spirit of interfaith harmony.

The day commenced with a commemorative walk from the Kurunegala town centre to the Cathedral, led by clergy and faithful believers, symbolizing the Diocese’s journey of faith over the past 75 years. The thanksgiving service that followed was a profound moment of reflection, prayer, and celebration, honouring the rich legacy of the Diocese and its continued mission in the community.

This historic event not only highlighted the Diocese of Kurunegala’s 75 years of service and faith but also reaffirmed its commitment to unity, peace, and spiritual growth in Sri Lanka and beyond.
