Three New Deacons Ordained on the Feast of St. James

On Friday, the 25th of July 2025, the Church of Ceylon joyfully celebrated the Service of Ordination of Deacons at St. Paul’s Church, Kandy, marking a sacred and historic occasion held on the Feast Day of St. James the Apostle.

The service witnessed the ordination of three new deacons into the Holy Order, each called to serve the church and community with humility, compassion, and steadfast faith. The newly ordained deacons are:

  • Rev. Hasitha Jayawardena – appointed Curate of St. Andrew’s Church, Polgahawela

  • Rev. Ranjit Victor – appointed Curate of St. Andrew’s Church, Nawalapitiya

  • Rev. Pamini Yasokumar – appointed Curate of Christ Church, Wattegama, and St. Thomas’s Church, Aranayake

The solemn service was officiated by the Bishop of Kurunegala, with the Archdeacon and many clergy of the diocese in attendance. In a spirit of unity and mutual respect, leaders from Buddhist and other Christian denominations also graced the event, symbolising the shared commitment to peace and spiritual service in our diverse society.

The service, rich in liturgy and tradition, was a moment of spiritual renewal not only for the ordinands but for the entire gathered body of Christ. The ordination is a reminder of the Church's ongoing mission to raise faithful shepherds who will care for the people and uphold the Gospel in word and action.

We extend our heartfelt prayers and blessings to Rev. Hasitha, Rev. Ranjit, and Rev. Pamini as they begin their ordained ministries. May the Holy Spirit guide and strengthen them in their journey of servant leadership.

Let us continue to keep them in our prayers as they begin this new chapter in their calling.
